Hot Doggin’ it Through The TSA With Food
Posted on | July 10, 2009 |
I usually take my chances when flying with TSA and food. I try not to pack food that looks too much like a paste. Bringing my own food is not only a more healthy choice it is, of course, cheaper.
This time when I flew, for the first time that I can remember, I did not check a bag. I packed for carry on. This was only a two day trip and I could get away without having everything that I usually travel with for work this time.
What a different experience it was for me. I needed two bins instead of the usual one at the x-ray machine. I had to pack my toiletries to comply with the TSA regulations which was in one bin and another bin for my laptop computer. Packing this way threw me for a loop and I found myself double and triple

checking my efforts at home so as to not hold up the line behind me if I were to fail at the airport. I know how I get when I am held up by an unprepared traveler and didn’t want anyone to experience the fruits of my error.
Anyway, the entire line came to a halt at the x-ray machine. Of course it just had to be my bag being carefully scrutinized by the examiner. Usually, I have a ton of wires and cables and that usually holds things up for me and this time it was an unusually longer time.
Then suddenly, I overheard the examiner at the monitor say to his colleague, “I swear that that is a hot dog in there!”
Speaking loud enough for him to hear, I chimed in brightly from across the x-ray machine; “it IS a hot dog in there! With kraut!”
The TSA agents around that heard me all looked at the screen and then they smiled and laughed.
We all learned something that day. When you see what looks like a hot dog in the x-ray machine, chances are it is a hot dog!
Happy Flying!
