Finally, a free flight! Overbooked Flights Are A Good Thing?
Posted on | April 21, 2009 |
Well, it finally happened. A flight I was booked on was oversold and volunteers were called for to take a later flight. After 30 years of traveling, of which more than 99% has been for work, I was able to take advantage of the offer of a free round trip flight and get re-booked on a later flight. Yippee for overbooked flights! It couldn’t come at a better time for me with a massive slowdown in work.
I tried to originally book a flight for the Sunday following Easter but couldn’t find a fare under $300 for a one way. So I set myself up on the cheapest flight possible on that same weekend. Sadly enough it was a 6:00am flight on a Saturday, Ouch! Fortunately the flights return to their “normal” around $100 fares for my return trip home next week. These expensive fares happen a few times a year and I’ve come to expect that.
It does kind of suck though because a full day of fun with my family was planned. Now I will just have to settle for a house without humans and only the dogs to play with. At least they won’t be

complaining like I am. They will be happy for the company.
Lately, I have been finding more convenient flights on airlines that I am not particularly keen to fly with. One of the reasons is because they always have overbooked flights. It’s a problem for me when I am not guaranteed a seat while booking. It’s usually imperative that I get to my destination on time.
If I could only express how much life would be improved if planes took off on-time, every time. Travel days would be so much less stressful. I might actually be able to schedule work on a travel day.
I asked the desk clerk at the gate if I could rebook my flight for another day but was advised against it as those flights were overbooked flights as well. I had hopes of scoring another voucher. After all, I do have two more days to get to work.
