Airport Tourism - What does your city look like?

Posted on | April 28, 2009 |

What does your city look like? The people, I mean, at the airport, airport tourism. I think they represent a pretty good slice of what to expect from a city even before you get there.

Do you ever notice what the crowd looks like getting on the plane you are getting on? What about the gate across the way? They must be on their way to a better climate as half of the passengers are wearing shorts.

How about the passengers getting off of the plane you are about to get on? Where did they come from? All the women are wearing chic clothing and high heel shoes. Most of the men are wearing slacks and sport coats and carrying briefcases that are not filled with work material.

How many people are traveling alone? Are they dressed casually or quasi-work like? Are there a lot of children aboard? Are they of the pre-school age or are they older? I can usually tell when schools are on vacation by the proportion of young people present in my vicinity of airport tourism.

How is the gene pool represented on your flight? Do the travelers on the plane or at a gate look and act like deer caught in the headlights? Are they loud and raucous or cool and sophisticated? Are they mostly overweight or fit and trim? Perhaps the passengers are a generous mix of all those traits.

Out of all the passengers with whom that I have flown I find that I prefer the LGA  (LaGuarida Airport, New York City) crowd. They are generally more sophisticated, meaning they create less fuss. There are fewer children that fly in and out of that airport meaning quieter flights and less need for earplugs. The proportion of better looking women on those flights is also greater than anyplace else that I can remember and overall the passengers that fly in and out of LGA are generally better dressed as a whole.

So the next time that you are in an airport, take a look around at the people and note their destinations. Are they beaming with excitement or have a somewhat ominous look on their faces. What are they wearing? Observe these strangers and I think that you too can find a distinct pattern in not only the dress but the mannerism of the people that fly to certain places whether it is a work destination or home.

Based upon what you have observed of airport tourism, where would you like to live?
