Another Airport Food Empty Sandwich

Posted on | April 25, 2009 |

Mmm, another expensive empty sandwich sold at the airport. The edges of it looked great in the wrapper but when I opened it, the sandwich fell far short of my expectations. Airport food.

It kind of made me mad. I immediately thought “can they be sued for false advertising and misrepresentation”? It’s bad enough that we have to endure the exorbitant prices for food and drink at the airport but shouldn’t we at least get quantity and quality food that would be considered fair in the world outside of the airport, you know……the real world?

And don’t get me started on nutrition, or lack thereof! All carbs, all sugar, all the time! Throw in some alcohol and caffeine, which is available in every airport and you have got yourself quite a toxic jungle

available to you.

Some of the most memorably better airport food I have encountered recently was at Logan Airport in Boston, Legal Seafood. Food that is outside of the usual “food that comes in a five gallon pail” style chain restaurants. I also suppose that it is only good if you have the time to enjoy a sit down meal. (Some fellow travelers have told me the food or service is not always up to par but what the heck, the alternatives are far worse.)

On the other hand, some of the most reasonably priced airport food I have encountered recently were in Barcelona, Spain. It was amazing! The food was pretty much the same style and amazingly the same price that you could find out on the street. What gives, America?

Finally, what about water? Does the TSA get a cut from every bottle of water sold at the airport? That’s a lot of water. It’s roughly sixteen dollars a gallon. Man!, am I in the wrong business. I should open an airport for the sheer profit of the food services end of the business.
